Just When Congress Found Grounds For Agreement

What a world, what a world. In spite of all the bad news, all the war, disease and political angst that’s currently out there, Congress has finally agreed to do something that most Americans want, and now CBS News is reporting out that it’s a bad idea.

An AP- NORC poll, indicates that 71% of Americans want permanent DST. However, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, thinks the move might screw up our circadian rhythms, promoting heart disease and causing traffic accidents, so they’re against it. CBS didn’t interview any scientists on the other side of the topic, so there must not be any? All I know, is that I feel lousy when we switch back to MDT (mostly darkness time) and I don’t feel good again until we return to DST.

If there is a side in the scientific community that disagrees with the Academy of Sleep Medicine, I hope the mass media finds them and puts them on the air and out in print, or we may be doomed to a return to nightfall at 4PM for years to come.

It feels like there may be something going on with this issue, that’s beyond just reporting out the facts. For some people, many, possibly, it feels like this has become an almost religious argument, like the cult of Trump vs. those who can still think for themselves and believe in Democracy. Except with this, the target is an almost religious zeal to prevent DST from becoming a permanent fixture.

I vote for DST. Our circadian rhythms will adapt. If that’s even a real problem. I vote against the promotion of hibernation and in favor of extended living through daylight while celebrating the fact that our dysfunctional Congress has finally found something they can agree upon.
