Regardless of your feelings about what Bradley Manning did, whether you see him as a patriot whistle blower or a traitor to the county, you must be at least a little disturbed at the way he was treated while awaiting trial in Marine Corps custody.  According to the ACLU and other sources, for nine months, Manning was held in isolation, at times naked.  For nine months.  That’s not standard incarceration, that’s torture.

I knew we had been torturing our enemies, or people the military believed to be our enemies, but I had no idea that we were doing it to our own people.  First Bradley Manning alerts us to the fact that the nation has lost its way, that among other things, the official policy in Iraq was to ignore torture.  And then our own military turns around and uses torture on one of our own soldiers?  What have we become?
