So Governor Arnold is making his comeback with an animated tv series called “The Governator?” Based on a superhero who lives a double life, it will use the character of the former governor, who decides to become a superhero crimefighter after leaving the Governor’s Office. Co-creator, comic book legend Stan Lee, says Maria and the kids will be featured, along with an “Arnold Cave” located beneath the former governor’s house in Brentwood. It could be a hoot. If it’s written well, that is. If the writing is as fresh as “King of the Hill” they could have a monster hit on their hands. If, on the other hand, it’s dumbed down like some of the other animated series are – well, that’ll just be sad. With the exception of PBS, there’s very little fresh material on tv that doesn’t insult one’s intelligence. Keeping my fingers crossed that the producers will be able to pick up the writers they’ll need to make this work. We could all use a laugh and this has the potential for being a big one.
According to Governor Arnold-
“The word Governator combined two worlds: the world of politics and the movie world. And [this cartoon] brings everything together. It combines the governor, the Terminator, the bodybuilding world, the True Lies…” – Arnold Schwarzenegger in Entertainment Weekly
I’d love to see them throw in a bumbling sidekick. Al Gore as “Enviroman” maybe? Or how about the ghost of Richard Nixon as a recurring character, coming back again and again, driving the Governator crazy with unwanted advice?
They could have all sorts of former politicos popping up. All properly pumped up, of course. Lots of possibilities.
The concept will also be released in comic book form. Very clever. At the very least, it looks like Arnold will be making another huge pile of money.
