According to a new Gallup Poll, 57% of America, has little or no trust in the mass media to report the news. That’s a record high. Suppose it has anything to do with the way news and entertainment has been mashed together into a digital porridge of biased infotainment junk increasingly delivered by amateurs who think Cronkite and Murrow are irrelevant, because neither has a personal profile on Facebook? Remember when news was news, and the “media” was something altogether different?
“Trust in the media is now slightly higher than the record-low trust in the legislative branch but lower than trust in the executive and judicial branches of government, even though trust in all three branches is down sharply this year. These findings also further confirm a separate Gallup poll that found little confidence in newspapers and television specifically.” -Gallup
I’m surprised it’s only up to 57%.
Oh Lord, I just checked, and those ghosts of journalism’s past, Cronkite and Murrow, are both on Facebook. Back from the grave, their profiles posted by Tiny Tim? Perhaps the social media and “citizen journalism” will save us? Now that friends, is a real reach. Even for Ebenezer Scrooge.
