“First They Came”

With regard to what’s happening relative to the destruction of unionism, the removal of democratically elected officials to facilitate the cancellation of hard-earned pension accounts and clearing the way for the corporate and private takeover of Detroit, the following comes to mind.  It deals with the Nazi’s rise to power in Germany, by attacking first one group and then another with inadequate understanding and outrage from the German populace.

First they came for the communists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a communist.

Then they came for the socialists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a trade unionist.

Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.

-Lutheran Pastor Martin Niemoller  (1892-1984)

It can’t happen here?  Don’t think so?  They’re already coming for your Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and government sponsored pension fund.   They’re pushing to eliminate the U.S. Postal Service while they continue promoting cuts to public education and the elimination of unionism in America.  Now is the time to start speaking out, and it’s easy.  Just google the names of your congressperson and U.S. Senators, along with the word “contact.”  It’ll take you to pages for email contacts and snail-mail addresses for your representatives in Washington.  Tell them what you think.  It’s far better than doing nothing.

  1. The quote from Niemoller is absolutely correct.

We Americans better hurry up and get our heads out of our butts.

Limbaugh, Hannitty, O’Reily and the like are making millions of dollars selling hate to divide and distract the masses, while the top 1% is ripping off the nation and other known parts of the world.

The slothfulness of the “news media” has contributed greatly to the dumbing down of the people in our beloved country. Most of today’s “news” executives and so-called “journalists” are allergic to research and fact finding. Rumor, speculation, spin and innuendo rule the airwaves everyday, resulting in an ill-informed general public. And that’s exactly the way the people at the top want it.

Multi-national corporations dictate legislation to the lobbyist everyday, who in turn write regressive laws, then demand implementation by “our legislators” who are more than happy to oblige as long as the fund raising dollars keep pouring in.

The corporate masters and the hustlers on K Street are the pimps, our [mis] representatives, and the “supreme kooks” are the holes.

The demonization of unions, teachers, earned benefits, the U.S. Postal Service, and cutting everything Americans have enjoyed for decades, is a shell game and pure madness.

Allowing our infrastructure to crumble in favor of privatizing cities, schools, prisons, public roads, mail delivery etc. will crush us.

The lobbyist for FedEx and UPS are salivating as they wait for congress to pull the plug on the U.S. Postal Service (BTW, none of our tax dollars support the USPS).

Can you Imagine paying $18.00 to mail a letter? You do know that’s where we’re headed, right?

The sadistic plutocrats actually enjoy the fact that people are stressed to the max, and suffering tremendously. It’s like sport to them. Are we so masochistic or numb to the fact that we are willing participants in our own demise?

If any person has a hard time living off of a million dollars per year, there’s something wrong with that person. The average CEO makes well over a million dollars per year, and yet that’s not enough. Give me a break!

Think with me for a moment, how many good paying jobs could the average CEO’s salary, stock options and “golden parachutes” produce? Plenty, right?

If Americans continue to turn a blind eye to the oligarch’s strategic “privatization” of everything, there is no hope for us.

Wake up and stand up America!
