An expert at covering aviation stories, Eric nearly always had a cheerful disposition, even in the face of increasingly difficult times at the paper. He made me feel welcome at the Times, even though I was a tv reporter who had been embedded by the Tribune Company. I will be forever grateful for his friendship.
Mr. Malnick was with the Times for 47 years. He died at his home in Altadena on Tuesday night following a lengthy illness.
Journalism has lost another good one. My sincere condolences to his family.
Eric was 73.
