When A Budget Deal Becomes A “Remarkable Agreement!”

What has the country come to when the Majority Leader in the Senate, a man who’s heavily funded by the National Rifle Association, calls a budget deal a “remarkable agreement?”  What’s so remarkable about the Senate and the House, carrying out one of their most basic functions?  If this weren’t so serious, it would be laughable.

We now live in a country where it’s far easier to go to war than it is to pass a federal budget.

Does anyone out there have the courage to even entertain the possibility that this government may be broken beyond repair because of the overriding influence of money and gerrymandered districts?  That this could be the end of an America that truly represents Americanism, with a level playing field and everybody having a shot at real success if they just work hard enough to get there?  That the only way out may be limiting outside influence through a combination of term limits and heavy campaign finance reform, which somehow takes the politically biased Supreme Court out of the picture, a move that would require patriots and statesmen and women, rather than self-serving politicians?

The system, as currently constituted, as it attempts to function in the wake of the Supreme Court’s ridiculous and anti-American decision in the Citizen’s United case, promotes bribery on Capitol Hill and in every state of the Union.  It promotes a political farce that considers a budget agreement to be a “remarkable agreement.”

Nothing has been solved as we wait for mid-January, at which time the self-aggrandizing three ring circus in Washington will start all over again.   This is what happens when you’ve got the best government money can buy.

Can it be repaired or is this the end?  Does anybody have the courage to talk about it, or do we keep moving on in denial, pretending the machinery of government is working in a country where corporations are people and speech is money?

  1. Ron, as to your first sentence in the third paragraph, I assume that you were not referring to Pelosi supporting gerrymandering in California when it would benefit her and the Democratic party. I suppose George Soros and others supplied the big money for the cause. Yes the influence of big money and gerrymandering has been around for a long time. I suppose bipartisan gerrymandering would help but, by definition, gerrymandering can’t be bipartisan because it is used for the advantage of one party. Redistricting could be used but why would anybody want to redistrict if there wasn’t something in for him or her or the party?

  2. Our democracy can be repaired. The question is, does anybody really want to put in the work? My answer; I don’t think so.

It appears that accepting graft from the “K Street” crew is a lot easier.

I saw Blanche Lincoln being interviewed last night (remember her, the former “Blue Dog” Democrat), and I thought, why in the world would anyone want to interview her? She was a true milquetoast when she was an elected official, and since losing her seat, she’s become a big time lobbyist (surprise, surprise).

As I suspected, she did absolutely nothing to advance the conversation regarding the government shut down. She was trying to sound ethical, while touting her corporate masters’ agenda. In my opinion, a “Blue Dog Democrat” is nothing but a Republican masquerading as a Democrat, and that’s exactly who Blanche was. I was very happy to see her sorry behind vacate the office.

We simply don’t have enough courageous men and women in office who give a damn about public service. It’s all about the “Yankee Dollar.”

Ted Cruz got a reportedly cool million dollars for his fiscal terrorist act, and 2-million new e-mail addresses to expand his looney base. Now he can forward incendiary e-mails at will to keep that cash coming in.

This entire shut down was orchestrated by Cruz so he could grand stand to become a household name, enhance his data base, and collect some cash for what will be his unsuccessful bid for the presidency.

And what did the American people get from Ted’s narcissistic adventure? Zip, zilch, nada!

What is “remarkable” is the fact that the American people are stupid enough to allow lunatics like Cruz to keep holding this nation hostage. He knew damn well there was no way to repeal “Obama-care.” It has been the law of the land for how long now? Please wake up people. This is all about distractions and raising cash!

In order to try to save face, impostors like Boehner, Cantor and Cruz tried switching the shell game in the 11th hour by pretending to be “deficit hawks.”

In the end, our nation’s deficit has increased significantly, and unnecessarily. All due to Ted Cruz and Boehner’s shenanigans. Deficit Hawks my ass. Pompous, selfish bastards is more like it.

The lending universe is totally convinced that Americans are more than willing to play Russian-Roulette with the world economy, and so our rating plummets again, and that’s just plain crazy!

Nations are fervently advocating for creation of a new world currency. Yep, the world wants to dump the “Yankee Dollar” as the standard, because of the GOP/TP’s deranged handling of their manufactured crisis.

This entire escapade was avoidable, not “remarkable,” and I am very underwhelmed, because we have to endure this nonsense again in a few months.

Folks, let’s put some competent people into office during the 2014 mid-terms. No staying home and pouting this time, OK? Let’s get these non-governing fools out of office!
